University of California, Los Angeles
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university located in the residential area of westwoodand bordered by the Bel-air to the north,Beverly Hills to the east,Brentwood to the west.
In 1919,it became the University of California Southern Branch. It was making the UCLA became the second-oldest undergraduate campus of the ten campus system after the original University of California in Barkeley.
When UCLA opened its new campus in 1929,it had 4 buildings, they are Royce Hall, Haines Hall on the north, Powell Library, Kinsey Hall (Now the Humanities building) on the south.
The campus is divided into north campus and south campus.North campus is the original campus core, its building has more old-fashioned in appearance and cald in imported Italian brick. North campus is home to the art, humanities, social science, law, business programs, and centered around ficus and sycamore-lined Dickson Court. While the South campus is home to the physical science,life science,engineering, mathematical science, health-related fields, and the UCLA medical center.
The UCLA is organized into five undergraduate colleges, seven professional school, and four professional health science school.
The UCLA has many facilities. They are :
1. Transportation and parking. The campus maintains 24,000 parking spaces and operates an award-winning sustainable transportation program includes vanpools, a campus shuttle system called Bruinbus, Discounted carpool permits, and subsidized transit passes.
2. Library.UCLA's library system has more than nine milion books and 70,000 serials spread over 12 libraries and 11 other archieves, reading rooms, and research centers. It is the United States' 12th largest library in number of volumes. The first library is Powell Library established in 1884.
3. Housing. the UCLA provides many housing for the student. The students can live in hall, plazas, suites, or university apartments which vary in pricing and private. Housing plans also provide the students access to dining facilities and residential cafes. The UCLA also offers three guaranteed housing for its incoming freshmen and one year to incoming transfer students. There are four types of housing available for students, they are residential halls, deluxe residential halls, residential plazas, and residential suites. Completed with study rooms, basketball courts, tennis courts, and Sunset Recretional Center which includes three swimming pools.

The UCLA provides more than 800 student organizations and also home to more than 68 Greek-letter organizations. There are also variety of Cultural organizations on campus such as Japanese Student Association (JSA), Association of Chinese America (ACA) and many more.
There are some traditions in The UCLA such as :
1. The UCLA's official charity is Unicamp,founded in 1934. It is a long-week summer camp for under served children around Los Angeles area.
2. The UCLA's fall quarter with True Bruin welcome to introduce new student to clubs and activities.
3. Dance marathon is an annual event organized by the Pediatric AIDS Coalition,where thousands of students raise a minimum of $250 and dance for 26 hours to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation,Project Kinddle and the UCLA AIDS Institute.
4. Midnight Yell. It helds during final weeks. Where every midnight, students yell as loudly as possible for a few minute, taking a short break from studying and releasing some stress.
5.The quarterly Undie Run takes place during the Wednesday evening of finals week, when student run through the campus in their underwear or in skimpy costumes.
